St. Francis Xavier braves rain
for AIDS walk

San Fernando Region
text only version

More than 60 walkers from St. Francis Xavier Church in Burbank participated in AIDS Walk Los Angeles Oct. 17. Holding umbrellas to ward off the rain, the group gathered at 6:30 a.m. to make their debut AIDS walk down San Vicente and Melrose Avenues. Confirmation candidates from the parish "high-fived" the volunteers as they paraded by, walking under a hot sun which came out after the rain.

"It was hot, it was tiring, it was fun and it was for a great cause," reported participant Rita Recker. The week prior to the event, parishioners supported the event by donating $705.70 in a second Mass collection. Each of the walkers also brought in pledges by their participation.

"I don't know how much we raised at this time, but I know we did well," declared Recker.
