Sr. Dolores Verdan

Sr. Dolores Verdan, OP
Funeral Mass was held Oct. 11 in Queen of the Rosary Chapel, Sinsinawa, Wisconsin for Dominican Sister Dolores (Desirée) Verdan, 87, who died Oct. 8 at the Dominican Motherhouse.

Born in Anaconda, Mont., Sister Verdan entered the Sinsinawa Dominicans in 1942. She was a high school language teacher for 35 years, serving in Peru, Bolivia and throught the U.S.

In Los Angeles, she taught English as a second language at All Saints Church as well as at local public schools from 1971-73. Memorials may be made to the Sinsinawa Dominicans, 585 County Road Z, Sinsinawa, WI 53824-9701.

Sr. Dorothy Butler, SSS
Funeral Mass was held Oct. 14 at Stella Maris in Los Angeles for Sister of Social Service Dorothy Butler, 90, who died Oct. 8.

Born in Braddock, Penn., Sister Butler entered the Sisters of Social Service in 1939. Locally, she served in youth ministry during the early 1940s and later was a Sybil Brand chaplain from 1981-1993.

Besides her ministries in the Los Angeles area, she served in Vallejo, San Rafael, San Francisco and San Diego. At the time of her death, she was the senior member of the Sisters of Social Service.

Sr. Mary Ann Pelkmann

Sr. Mary Ann Pelkmann, SNDdeN
Funeral Mass was held Sept. 3 at the Sisters of Notre Dame Province Center in Belmont, California for Sister of Notre Dame de Namur Mary Ann Pelkmann, 91, who died Aug. 30 at Mercy Care Center in Oakland.

An Illinois native, she moved to Southern California as a child with her family and was one of the first students of St. Columbkille Schoool in Los Angeles. During her 61-year career as an educator, she taught at St. Columbkille and Mother of Sorrows Schools, Los Angeles, and Dolores and Guadalupe Schools, Santa Barbara.

Burial was at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery in Santa Clara. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 1520 Ralston Ave., Belmont, CA 94002.
