With millions of Sudanese continuing to suffer without adequate food, water or shelter, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is providing water sanitation, shelter and psychosocial support in West Darfur for 125,000 internally displaced persons.

CRS also is constructing schools and providing materials for 16,000 primary school children, relocating displaced persons, and assessing other vulnerabilities and needs in the region. But to meet its pledge of $6 million to the crisis in Sudan, CRS needs the continued donations from Catholic parishes.

"To date, the people of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles have contributed $80,000 towards the Sudan Relief," said Maria Elena Perales, director of the Office of Justice and Peace. "Let's continue our prayers and consider making a donation so that we are able to reach the $100,000 mark. This will definitely make a difference to our sisters and brothers in Sudan."

In Haiti, recent hurricanes have caused devastating floods that have left many dead and hundreds without shelter and basic necessities.

"Severe flooding, mudslides, food shortages and lack of potable water are commonplace, rendering many of those affected completely dependent on humanitarian aid to survive," said Perales.
