St. John Bosco football coach honored

Kiki Mendoza, the head football coach at St. John Bosco High School recently became a local celebrity when he was honored on Sept. 21 as the High School Coach of the Week by Channel 7 Eyewitness News.

Bob Golic, a former Notre Dame and L.A. Raider star, visited the Bellflower campus to make the presentation to Mendoza, who was joined by the entire Bosco Braves football team.

The ceremony, which aired on Channel 7's "Sports Zone" on Sept. 27, included a $1,000 grant from the NFL Youth Charities and a plaque signed by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, NFL director of operations Gene Washington and ABC 7 sportscaster Rob Fukuzaki.
