St. Joseph parishioner turns 100

San Gabriel Region
text only version

It was supposed to be a "big blow out" party, but a celebration for Bill McDonough --- who turns 100 Oct. 24 --- is going to be more of a smaller family affair.

"We had a little setback because dad fell and broke his leg," says daughter Jean. "He's recuperating and we hope to get him on some physical therapy soon."

Nonetheless, McDonough will be attending the 5:30 p.m. Mass Oct. 23 at his parish of St. Joseph Church in La Puente, a Eucharistic celebration that will be offered in his name.

A parishioner since 1934 McDonough has been a familiar face for fellow parishioners, serving about 45 years as an usher. "People say that he's so kind, courteous and polite," says Jean. "He really does think of others and does what he can to help. We'd like to see all his friends at the Saturday Mass come and wish dad a happy birthday."
