Annunciation hosts Jaime Cortez at concert and workshop

Liturgical musician/composer Jaime Cortez will appear in concert and at a workshop Sept. 17-18 at Annunciation Church in Arcadia.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17, with Cortez joined by Annunciation parish choirs and soloists. The Sept. 18 workshop on inculturation and music (9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) will follow an 8:30 a.m. Mass.

Jaime Cortez --- currently music director at St. Bridget Church in Mesa, Ariz. --- is a nationally-known composer of such liturgical hymns as "Rain Down" and "Somos El Cuerpo de Cristo" (We Are the Body of Christ). A familiar performer at the annual Religious Education Congress, he has collaborated with Bob Hurd and others on various collections of music, and regularly presents workshops and concerts around the U.S.

Admission to the concert and workshop is $5 for each. Annunciation Church is located at 1307 E. Longden Ave., Arcadia. For information, call Joella Merten, music director, at (626) 821-0264, or (626) 447-6202.
