Feast of San Gennaro: Sept. 24-26

Our Lady of the Angels Region
text only version

This year's third annual "Feast of San Gennaro LA" moves to The Gove/Farmers Market in Los Angeles. The three-day celebration of Italian culture, art, food and entertainment Sept. 24-26 is hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Carolla and Tommy Lasorda. "Prima Notte," a star-studded charity gala Sept. 23 to benefit underprivileged children kicks off the celebration.

"We are very excited to turn Grove Drive into Little Italy for three days," said Kimmel, host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on ABC.

This year's event features Italian food from more than 35 of LA's top Italian restaurants, live music, carnival games, rides, street performers and strolling musicians. A host of Italian-themed activities take place, including bocce ball tournaments, grape stomps, celebrity chef demonstrations on the cooking stage, plays, and a Kid's Corner.

The Feast of San Gennaro originated in Naples, Italy and continues there to this day. Intrinsic to the tradition is the ceremonial carrying of the statue of San Gennaro from the church to the festival. On Sept. 25 at 10:30 a.m. the statue will be processed from Christ the King Church at Vine and Melrose to the feast site.

There is no charge for admission to the Feast and the hours daily (Sept. 24-26) are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Tickets to "Prima Notte" are $100 and $250 and can be purchased by calling (818) 994-4661. For more information, visit www.feastofla.org.
