In the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section are 13 divisions, 62 leagues and 371 high schools that compete in football.

Catholic high schools are represented in seven divisions, 10 leagues (plus a "freelance" group of non-league-affiliated schools), and 35 schools in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

This year's prep football action began Labor Day weekend, and heats up considerably this weekend with most teams playing their first games of the year. League play commences for most teams the weekend of Oct. 15, with playoff action beginning the weekend of Nov. 19 and concluding with championship games on Dec. 10-11.
