Parishioners at St. Bruno Church in Whittier have shipped over 3,000 pounds of packages to U.S. Armed Services troops serving overseas.
Parishioners were asked to fill shoeboxes with items the service men and women need. The items were then packed into large 60-pound cartons and shipped.
"Not only did the parishioners provide the supplies for the boxes, but they also donated the cost of shipping the packages," said Isabel Reeves, St. Bruno Armed Forces Box Committee member.
Parish groups participating in the project include the Senior Group, the Boy and Girl Scouts, school and religious education students, St. Vincent de Paul members and the Singles Club. Donations also came from the Garden Grove Special Education Class and also from three eight- and nine-year-old girls in Hacienda Heights who heard of the project and wanted to contribute filled three boxes on their own. |
