Providence Sisters honor ruby jubilarians

Ten Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind., celebrated their ruby jubilee this year, including two who formerly ministered in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.

Providence Sister Loretta Picucci, a native of Chicago, graduated from Loyola University and was a teacher and director of the South Central Los Angeles Ministry Project (LAMP) from 2001-2003. She is currently an instructor of English as a Second Language in Cherry Valley.

A native of Cincinnati, Providence Sister Barbara Reder taught at St. Therese School in Alhambra in 1973 and was also a dietitian at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Long Beach from 1986-1988. She is currently on sabbatical.

With a congregation of more than 500 women religious, the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods has their motherhouse in northwest Indiana. They minister in 20 states, the District of Columbia, Taiwan and China.
