Former Bellarmine Jefferson teacher celebrates diamond jubilee

Sister of Charity Rosemary Coates (Walter), who taught at Bellarmine Jefferson High School in Burbank from 1952-56, will be honored as one of three diamond jubilarians Sept. 5 at Mount Carmel Motherhouse in Dubuque, Iowa. She was one of the first teachers at the high school, which began as a one-room schoolhouse in 1945.

During her 75 years in religious life, Sister Coates taught at schools in Chicago, Ill.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Kansas City, Mo.; Wichita, Kan.; Dubuque, Iowa and Phoenix, Ariz., where she served as principal. She lives in retirement at her community's Dubuque motherhouse.
