Interfaith groups march for peace Sept. 11

Our Lady of the Angels Region
text only version

The Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace is hosting a march for peace Sept. 11 in Los Angeles.

Multiple marches beginning at 10 a.m. will converge at MacArthur Park (7th and Parkview) in Los Angeles. The peace program "9/11: Journeys of Local and Global Healing" takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Participants will include war veterans, war refuges, laborers, clergy, ex-gang members and "all people who have had to overcome some of the worst struggles of society and who have, not only managed to thrive, but now can pass on legacies of endurance and peacemaking skills," said Thia Stephan, ICUJP coordinator.

Stephan said the event would be a "positive healing event," in contrast to other peace protests that include civil disobedience. For more information about march routes, call (626) 683-9004, or see www.icujp.org.
