St. Maria Goretti hosts anniversary celebration

San Pedro Region News
text only version

On July 18 family and friends gathered to celebrate the 70th wedding anniversary of Florence and Charles Landry, longtime members of St. Maria Goretti Church in Long Beach. Msgr. Douglas Saunders presided at the celebratory Mass, followed by a reception given by the Reginas.

During the festivities the Reginas presented the Landry's with an Apostolic Blessing from Pope John Paul II.

The Landrys were married at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Boston in 1934, and moved to Long Beach in 1943. Their marriage produced seven children, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Landrys were founding members of the parish and remain active in parish activities. Charles was a member of the Catholic Naval League and Mary Help of Christians Knights of Columbus Council in Bellflower as well as an active member of the Carmelites.

Florence served as President of the church group and was an active member of the Carmelites and the Reginas.
