"A Midsummer Night's Cuisine," the seventh annual fundraiser for Holy Family Church elementary and high schools in Glendale, drew over 1,300 participants to an evening of fun, food and entertainment June 27. Dubbed "the best party" in town by a local community newspaper, the event raised over $100,000 for tuition scholarships to the schools. Longtime Holy Family High School supporters, Dr. John Davitt, president of Glendale College, and his wife, Gael, sixth grade teacher at St. Bede School in La Caņada, were honored for their many years of dedicated service to the community.
Guests were treated to a selection of food from 50 local restaurants and an entertainment program that included song and dance numbers from the musical "South Pacific." Vocalists for the evening included Broadway performers, Joan Almedilla ("Miss Saigon") Jennifer Naimo Morales ("Les Miserables") and parishioners, Marge Mortel, playing "Bloody Mary," and Peter Vecchio, portraying "Emile de Becque." Holy Family Church parishioner, Brad Thomas, staged, directed and produced the musical part of the program. |
