Bob Hurd concert will celebrate
Santa Clara Church's 100th year

Santa Barbara Region News
text only version

A concert presented by noted liturgical composer Bob Hurd will be held July 30 at Santa Clara Church in Oxnard, as part of the centennial festivities marking the establishment of the parish church.

Hurd has been one of the country's leading composers of liturgical music in a variety of styles for the past 25 years, and is a frequent lecturer and workshop presenter at conferences around the world.

The parish of Santa Clara was established in February 1885 by early pioneer farming families, when its territory included all the areas south of the Santa Clara River. The current Santa Clara Church building --- a 14th century Gothic design --- opened its doors after construction was completed in 1904. At the time, its spire towered over the flat wilderness of the new township of Oxnard. A separate chapel (located at Rose Avenue and the 101 Freeway) today serves parishioners on the north side of the city.

Santa Clara Church is located at 323 S. E St. (at Third) in Oxnard. For information, call (805) 487-3891.
