Little Sisters of the Poor observe silver jubilee in San Pedro

San Pedro Regional News

On June 19 over 400 gathered in the chapel garden of the Jeanne Jugan Residence to celebrate the 25th jubilee of the Little Sisters of the Poor's move from Boyle Heights to San Pedro.

During the festive evening it was announced that $500,000 has been raised toward the $2.5 million goal to build a new medical suite for onsite care of the elderly and a new convent area for the Little Sisters.

Two men instrumental in the fundraising efforts were honored with the first ever Jeanne Jugan Medallions.

Joseph Nally, founding and current chairman of the advisory board, and Ken Olsen, advisory board member and past advisory and capital campaign committee member, were presented with the medal in honor of their dedication and leadership.

"Joe Nally and Ken Olsen have done so much to support our work," said Mother Marguerite, superior of the home. "Through their example and encouragement they have brought forward many others to help with the needs of our Home."

The event raised over $200,000 to assist the Little Sisters in their care for the poor. The Little Sisters operate a home for over 100 aged in the San Pedro area. They accept only the poor and care for them until their death
