Corita Art Center plans Family Fun Fest
in August

Our Lady of the Angels Region
text only version

A family event that involves an art tour and the chance to create art in the vision of legendary artist Corita Kent is scheduled Aug. 8 at the Corita Art Center in Hollywood.

The center and the Immaculate Heart Community will sponsor a Family Fun Fest on Aug. 8, 1-4 p.m., that invites families to tour the new, extensive exhibit of Corita artwork in the gallery. Participants will then help paint "a bold new community mural," based on Corita's Beatitudes banner, said Peggy Kayser, director.

The event --- which also includes food, entertainment and a raffle --- is part of the center's monthly "Open Sundays" series offering art activities for people of all ages. The Corita Art Center is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Corita Kent's art and dedication to social justice. Her serigraphs have received international acclaim for their use of color and text, and are found in more than 30 museums.

The Corita Art Center is located near Immaculate Heart High School in Hollywood at 5515 Franklin Ave. For information, call (323) 466-2157, or visit www.corita.org.
