Jesuit Father Greg Boyle, founder of Homeboy Industries in East Los Angeles, was among several hundred people who carried the Olympic flame on its journey through the United States, prior to the Olympic Games to be held in Athens in August. Other torchbearers included Father John Bakas, pastor of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. The flame visited former Summer Olympic host cities in the U.S. June 16-19, including St. Louis and Atlanta; Los Angeles hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984. |
