Twenty-one year-old, pianist Jovanni-Rey de Pedro will perform a summer dinner concert July 17, 7 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church as a renovation fundraiser for the Baldwin Park church. The St. John choir and guest artists are also scheduled to perform a mix of Gospel, Filipino and classical music.

Son of Remi and Trina de Pedro of Baldwin Hills, de Pedro has been studying the piano since he was 3 years old and made it to the semifinals of the National Yamaha Electone Competition at age 10. After graduating from St. John the Baptist School, de Pedro studied at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Currently, he is studying at the Vienna Conservatory of Music in Austria and has won numerous top prizes in national and international piano competitions.

An active parishioner at St. John the Baptist, de Pedro assists his father with the Filipino Choir and has taken the choir to numerous successful competitions.
