Providence students create
'museum of tolerance'

San Fernando Region
text only version

Providence High School students of Armenian descent, in conjunction with the school's senior class and sophomores enrolled in Honors World History, created their own "museum of tolerance" on the Burbank campus in late April to promote awareness of acts of genocide throughout the 20th and 21th centuries. The museum featured interactive learning stations as well as historical propaganda posters.

The museum was one of several events and cultural teaching opportunities planned for the week following Armenian Genocide Memorial Day on April 24. On April 29, the students responsible for the museum hosted an assembly for their peers on the subject of genocides throughout history. Glendale Board of Education president Greg Krikorian and Armenian National Committee member Armen Garabetyan were guest speakers at the assembly. They discussed the Armenian genocide and its relation to other genocides throughout history.
