Franciscan Sister Barbarine Houdek, who has served for 14 years as librarian at St. Francis High School in La Caņada, is celebrating her 60th anniversary as a religious.

A native of Calmar, Iowa, Sister Houdek graduated from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois and later earned an MA in Theatre Arts from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

After working as an elementary school teacher for 31 years, sister taught drama and religion to high school students in several schools and parishes throughout California. She taught English speech and media arts for one year at St. Francis High School until becoming campus librarian.
