St. John Eudes softball team wins title

With their motto, "Pray hard and play hard," thirteen softball "A" team members from St. John Eudes School in Chatsworth played their way to victory in team finals May 21, winning the 2004 Valley Catholic League Championship. The ten eighth grade and three seventh grade team members, some of whom had never played softball before, played "from the heart," said Coach Jerry Webb, whose daughter, Nikki, was team pitcher and co-captain.

Coach Webb attributed the team's success to members' excellent batting skills in addition to strong pitching and catching by Nikki and Ashley Stevenson, respectively. The win represents the first championship in Girls "A" softball for St. John Eudes in 34 years.
