Building Inclusive Communities institute scheduled Aug. 5-8

text only version

The seventh annual Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) Through Mindful Intercultural Communication Summer Institute will be held Aug. 5-8 at Mount St. Mary's College Doheny Campus, 10 Chester Place in Los Angeles.

This is an immersion experience institute to move beyond awareness of the diversity in the community and to develop an understanding and appreciation of culture, ethnicity and other differences toward building inclusive communities," explained Fe Musgrave, coordinator of catechesis in the Asian-American perspective in the Office of Religious Education.

Workshops in Track A, "Developing Skills in Intercultural Communication," are now offered in English and Spanish. The Spanish sessions are on the weekend of Aug. 7 (Bases y Pautas para Una Comunicacion Efectiva) and Aug. 8 (Frente a Frente a los Desafios de la Diversidad de America).

In Track B, "Engaging Faith and Culture," a Friday and Saturday "Interfaith Experience of God" with Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Hinduism will be presented.

Keynote presenters are Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Solis, San Bernardino Bishop Gerald Barnes, Dr. Greer Gordon, Orange Auxiliary Bishop Jaime Soto and Dr. Orlando Espin. Each will address an aspect of "Encountering God in American Diversity."

For more information, call Musgrave at (213) 637-7669, or contact her by email at FMusgrave@la-archidocese.org.
