Catholic Bible Institute sets Summer Session June 21-25

text only version

"Whispering Voices Roar," the fourth annual Summer Catholic Bible Institute, will explore lesser known biblical figures whose voices are seldom heard, yet have much to teach us about the importance of faithfulness today.

By seeing how God's grace is present in the lives of all women and men in the Bible, we become open to the possibilities for liberation and transformation in our own lives and the lives of those around us. Examining the neglected characters and texts of the Bible will encourage us to claim the power of the Word as our heritage, and offer us all hope of a better future.

Each day a renowned biblical scholar will address a particular topic around the main theme.

---Monday, June 21: Foregrounding Old Testament Background Characters. Gina Hens-Piazza, Ph.D. is a professor of biblical studies at the Jesuit School of Theology and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.

---Tuesday, June 22, Flourishing Among the Nations: Are American Christians Called to Conversion? Kathleen O'Connor, Ph.D. is a professor of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary in Georgia.

---Wednesday, June 23, Neglected Apostles and Evangelists of the New Testament. S. Scott Bartchy, M.Div., Ph.D. is a professor of history and the director of the Center for the Study of Religion at UCLA

---Thursday, June 24, Discipleship at the Margins. Ched Myers, M.A. is a co-founder of Bartimaeus Cooperative Ministries in Los Angeles.

---Friday, June 24, Revelation and the End of All Things. Craig R. Koester, Ph.D. is a professor of New Testament at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
