After winning first place in the local archdiocesan decathlon competition in March, the Sacred Heart School decathlon team from Lancaster went on to capture second place in the statewide competition May 1. Members of the Sacred Heart team competed against teams from the following California dioceses: Fresno, Monterey, Orange, Sacramento, San Bernardino/Riverside, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego and Santa Rosa.

Sacred Heart decathlon team members placing in the top tiers included: Anne Marie Bessacini, first place for current events; Brent Chapman, third place for social studies; and Daniel Pincetich, third place for science.
