St. Bede students lend helping
hand to families

San Fernando Region
text only version

During the liturgical seasons of Advent, Lent and Easter, students at St. Bede School in La Caņada participated in a variety of projects to help at-risk families, here and abroad. During Advent, the children collected over $700 to give to a former St. Bede student, Nora Sheedy, who is currently serving in the Peace Corps. Sheedy is using the funds to help the poor in the Dominican Republic.

During Lent, the students collected funds to provide an Easter meal for 12 families housed at the Good Shepherd Center in Los Angeles. Families at the center are victims of domestic violence and commit themselves to a program of six to 18 months toward rebuilding family unity. In addition to the Easter meal gift, Mark Saatzer, a sixth grader, celebrated his birthday by coordinating a gift collection drive for the children at Good Shepherd. More than 40 gifts were contributed by the schoolchildren.
