Nativity School fetes retiring teacher

text only version

TORRANCE --- Therese Fitzgerald, a long-time principal at Nativity School in Torrance who is retiring after more than two decades of service, will be honored for her 24 years of service at two events in the South Bay. On May 7 the Ports O' Call restaurant in San Pedro will host a dinner and celebration for the retiring educator. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased by calling (310) 834-7439 or (310) 325-9858. On May 16 a Mass in her honor will be celebrated at Nativity Church at 9:30 a.m. "'Ms. Fitz' has been a significant part of Nativity's history in educating several family generations in the South Bay," writes Necy Sumait, a retirement committee member. "She has always said that one of the greatest rewards for her is when students come back. Several of those young minds she helped shape will be coming back to show their appreciation for that special principal that got them on their way to deal with life's journeys."
