Nyko Bodnar, a fourth grader at St. Barnabas School in Long Beach, has qualified for the National Springboard Diving Championships April 22-23 in San Antonio, competing on both the one and three meter boards.

Nine-year-old Nyko, a Junior Olympic Diver, has been diving for almost two years with the McCormick Diving Club, and prior to that participated in gymnastics. He was also the Southern Pacific Association Diver of the Year for the 9 and under age group for 2003. The SPA is a regional member of USA Diving, the official governing body and official representative of divers in the United States.

Bodnar also plays basketball and runs track for St. Barnabas, and plays CYO baseball.
