SOAR! Benefit Dinner set May 20

text only version

Kathleen and Allen Lund of Pasadena will receive the SOAR! "St. Elizabeth Ann Seton" Award at SOAR!'s Eighth Annual Benefit Dinner in Beverly Hills May 20.

This award is presented annually to individuals who have shown a commitment of spirit to the community and generosity in service to the Catholic Church and to the religious who shaped them in their faith and in their lives.

The Lunds attend St. Andrew Church in Pasadena and are active in Legatus, the Catholic Education Foundation, the Cardinal's Award Committee and the Board of St. Francis High School in La Canada.

Support Our Aging Religious, Inc. (SOAR!) was established in 1986 to aid and assist religious communities in the care of their elderly and infirm members. Local recipients of SOAR! Grants have included Sisters of IHM; Little Sisters of the Poor; Sisters of Social Service; Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, and Sisters of St. Louis.

For tickets to the benefit at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, call (310) 271-4386.

Good Shepherd Luncheon: April 24
The 20th anniversary of the Auxiliary for Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women will be celebrated April 24 at the organization's annual "Forget-Me-Not" benefit luncheon at the Wilshire Country Club.

Honored at the luncheon will be Emma Dry, longtime auxiliary member, for her two decades of service, and three individuals --- Susan Wendell, David Wendell and Bill Brown --- with the Community Partners Award for their efforts on behalf of the organization. Beginning at 11 a.m., the event also will include drawings for prizes.

Proceeds will benefit the center's Women's Village Project, the first two phases of which were completed in the past six years to house and educate 30 homeless women (Phase I) and to house disabled mothers with minor children (Phase II). A third phase will offer permanent housing, ongoing education and training and job opportunities through a country store and coffee shop.

Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women is a program of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles. For information, call Chickie Byrne, (323) 936-7589.
