Funeral Mass was celebrated March 8 in Ireland for Sister
of St. Louis Angela Woods (formerly Sister M. Concord), who
died suddenly March 5 while on a visit to Ireland.
Born in Carrickmacross, Ireland, she came to California
in 1950 and taught in local schools including Nativity, El
Monte; Our Lady of Refuge, Long Beach; Holy Name of Mary,
San Dimas; St. Bede, La Canada; Mater Dei, Santa Ana; and
Louisville, Woodland Hills where she also served as school
librarian. From 1966 to 1987, she was librarian at St. John's
Seminary in Camarillo.
Sister Angela was Religious Education Coordinator at Our
Lady of the Valley in Canoga Park and recently served as regional
archivist for the Sisters of St. Louis. Survivors include
her brother, Desmond, her sisters Maisie, Eileen, Anne and
Frances as well as many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Dublin, Ireland. An evening Memorial Mass
was celebrated at St. Mel Church in Woodland Hills on March
15.

Michael L. LaNier
Funeral Mass was celebrated March 26 at St. Michael's Abbey
Church in Trabuco Canyon for Father Michael LaNier, 59, who
died March 22 following a long illness.
Born in Sydney, Australia, he was ordained for the Archdiocese
of Los Angeles on December 3, 1983. During his ministry, Father
Michael served as an associate pastor at Nativity Church in
Torrance (1983-85) and St. Denis Church in Diamond Bar (1985-91).
He was in residence at St. Denis until July 31, 1992, and
retired from active ministry due to illness.
Burial took place at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona
del Mar.
Sr.
Mary Christina Punch, DMJ
Funeral Mass was celebrated March 6 at Risen Christ Chapel,
Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City for Daughter of Mary and
Joseph Sister Mary Christina Punch who died Feb. 19.
Born in Los Angeles in 1926, she graduated from St. Mary's
Academy, Inglewood, and Immaculate Heart College. As a Daughter
of Mary and Joseph, she taught in schools located in several
California cities, including Culver City, Mill Valley, San
Francisco, Santa Maria and Westwood.
Besides teaching, she served in many capacities for her
community, such as provincial councilor, development director,
treasurer, director of the retreat center in Palos Verdes
and editor of publications. For a time, she served as office
manager and secretary at Carondolet Center, Brentwood, and
office manager at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Westwood.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Russell of Santa Ana and
two nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Daughters
of Mary and Joseph Retirement Fund, 5300 Crest Road, Rancho
Palos Verdes, CA 90275.
Sr. Kathleen Marie
Cronin, SP
Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 9 at the Church of the
Immaculate Conception in St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana for
Providence Sister Kathleen Marie Cronin (formerly Mary Irene),
87, who died Jan. 3.
Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Sister Kathleen Marie entered
the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence at age 19. She
graduated with a BS Education degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods
College in Indiana and received an MA in Guidance from Providence
College in Providence, Rhode Island.
Sister
taught in schools staffed by the Sister of Providence in Indiana,
Illinois, Maryland, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, North Carolina
and California. From 1980-92, she taught at St. Ambrose School
in Hollywood.
Survivors include two sisters: Marie Cronin Bouchie of Baynton,
Fla., and Claire Cronin Young of Brewster, Mass., as well
as several nieces and nephews. Burial was at the Cemetery
of the Sisters of Providence, St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana.
Deacon
Antonio Torres
Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 29 at Resurrection Church
in Los Angeles for Deacon Antonio "Ben" Torres who died Dec.
24. One of the first Spanish permanent deacons in the Archdiocese
of Los Angeles, Deacon Torres was ordained June 1, 1985 at
St. Vibiana Cathedral.
Surviving family members include his wife, Blanca de Torres;
son, Anthony; daughter, Blanca; and grandchildren, Heather
Torres, Ashley Torres and Jazmin Diaz. Burial was at Resurrection
Cemetery in Montebello.
