CSJ Sisters celebrate anniversaries

text only version

Carondelet Center, Brentwood, was the site for 36 Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet to celebrate March 20 the anniversaries of their religious professions --- from 25 to 80 years.

Collectively the sisters --- nearly all of them still fully active in ministries related to healthcare, social work and education in California, Hawaii and Arizona --- represented 1,965 years of service to the church. The jubilarians who minister in Hawaii provided tuberose and orchid leis, whose fragrance permeated the air of Carondelet Center Chapel where the sisters renewed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Leading the list among the 2004 jubilarians were Sister Agnes Joseph Walsh, who celebrated her 80th anniversary as a Sister of St. Joseph; Sister Mary Adrienne Kennedy, 75 years; Sisters Anne Therese Grusling, Mary Carolyn Hayn and Leone Laporte, 70 years.

Celebrating 60 years were Sisters Consuelo Aguilar, Marion Donohue, Mechtilde Gerber, Claire Latham, Paul Joseph Madden, Mary Frances Rebel, Rosaleen Russell, St. George Skurla, Ann Marguerite Souza, and Edward Mary Zerwekh.

Golden Jubilarians (50 years) were Sisters Catherine Anthony Acain, Julia Marie Acain, Marie Chapla, Jeanne Cecile Cools, Magdalen Marie Crivello, Antoinette Czuleger, Pauline Therese Daries, Suzanne Ensminger, Patricia Gage, Maria Lucinda Lopez, Patricia McCarthy, Margaret Ellen McGraw, Anne McMullen, Ann Patricia O'Connor, Noreen O'Connor, Mary Dorothea Quinn, Anna Sangiacomo and Mary Sevilla.

Silver jubilarians (25 years) were Sisters Irma Araneta and Rosemarie Montoya.

Sinsinawa Dominicans

Three Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters who served previously in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will mark jubilees of their religious profession later this year in the Midwest.

Sisters Macrina Conlon and Mary Zoe Dieter will be among 10 Sinsinawa Dominicans celebrating their 70th jubilees June 6 at Sinsinawa, Wis. Both sisters' ministries have been dedicated to elementary education. Sister Conlon served at All Saints School, Los Angeles (1959-65), while Sister Dieter ministered at St. Thomas More, Alhambra (1953-59). Both are now retired at St. Dominic Villa at Sinsinawa.

Sister Eduarda Makal will be among 26 Sinsinawa Dominicans celebrating 50 years of religious life on July 25. She taught at All Saints (1967-70).
