"Cesar Chavez: His Soul and His Spirit," an exhbit of photography
by Vida Nueva editor Victor Alemán, will be on display for
six weeks at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels beginning
March 31.
Alemán's collection covers many years spent covering Chavez
and the farm labor movement. He was managing editor of El
Malcriado, the UFW membership publication, and cofounded the
first farmworker radio station, KUFW. For the past 12 years
he has served as editor of Vida Nueva, Spanish-language publication
of the Archdiocese, during which time he and the publication
have received numerous awards.
This
exhibit was requested by Hispanic priests of the archdiocese
who pointed out that the photographs "underscore the popular
religiosity that defined Chavez as a contemporary yet traditional
Catholic," noted Father Lorenzo Miranda, pastor of St. Louis
of France Church, La Puente.
The photographs will be displayed in a side chapel inside
the Cathedral, 555 W. Temple St., Los Angeles.
