St. Anthony student named student ambassador for 'People' program

San Pedro Region
text only version

Marie-Leigh Ignacio, an eighth grade student at St. Anthony School in Long Beach, has been chosen to take part in the People to People Student Ambassador Program. Founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the program initiates contact between ordinary citizens all over the world to "eliminate misperceptions, misunderstanding, and suspicions born from fear of things unknown," said Ignacio.

During June and July, Ignacio will travel to France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy visiting the homes, schools and communities of these countries.

"As a student ambassador I join the effort to bring the world together through education and friendship," said Ignacio. "In me the world sees the future full of hope, courage and the promise of peace."

Ignacio is an honor roll student and president of the student council at St. Anthony's. She is also a member of the basketball team and plays the piano with the school choir.
