A program of the music of Claudio Monteverdi will be presented
by the Oaks Chamber Singers on March 28, 4 p.m. at St. John's
Seminary Chapel, Camarillo.
Selections will include an a cappella Mass written for four
voices, and the "Magnificat" from the 1610 Vespers composed
for a seven-part chorus. "Monteverdi's intricate style became
immensely popular," said Annette Murphy, director of the Oaks
Chamber Singers. "However, because of its difficulty, few
choruses ever attempt this music in performance."
Gregorian
chant and duets accompanied by cello, classical guitar and
organ will also be featured, with classical guitarist Gregory
Newton playing Renaissance selections.
Suggested freewill donation is $10. St. John's Seminary
is located at 5012 Seminary Rd., Camarillo. For information,
call (805) 388-8913.
