LMU plays Baylor in NCAA first round

text only version

Having earned the first NCAA Tournament automatic bid in program history, Loyola Marymount University's women's basketball team will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to face Baylor in the tournament's first round March 20.

LMU, which earned the 13th seed in the Midwest regional, will take on No. 4 seed Baylor (24-8) in The Pit on the campus of the University of New Mexico. The winner of the LMU/Baylor match-up would advance to play the winner of No. 5 seed Florida and No. 12 seed New Mexico on March 22.

LMU and Baylor will enter the NCAA Tournament having met three times before. Baylor owns the all-time series with the Lions 2-1, but LMU took a 71-55 decision from the Bears in 2000.

The Lions earlier won the program's first West Coast Conference Tournament Championship, capping an incredible run in winning their last 15 games. The Lions, who have not lost in over two months, earned the WCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
