St. John Bosco student wins
journalism competition

Jerome Villarin, a junior at St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, was recently selected to participate in '"Saturdays at The Times," a high school journalism workshop conducted by the Los Angeles Times.

Only 26 students were selected to participate in three successive Saturdays sessions, which include workshops, classes, and homework assignments.

Villarin, a three-year honor roll student from Cerritos is a natural in journalism given his interest in literature, writing, and leisure reading noted Kerry Dusserre, an administrator at St. John Bosco.

Besides writing for the school's newspaper, Villarin is actively involved with the school yearbook as well. His goal is to attend UCLA and major in writing and film directing.
