The many hats of Jean Nash were hung up to rest this month
when the long-time administrative staffer at San Gabriel Mission
High School retired from her post.
Having served at the school for 28 years, Nash had become
a fixture at the San Gabriel school, acting as registrar,
attendance taker and a host of other duties.
"The most amazing thing was her memory," says Mary Ann Baldonado,
director of development for the school. "If someone came back
years later to the school, she could tell the former student
her name and the year she graduated."
But,
Nash's legacy will be more than her recollection abilities.
Baldonado called Nash - whose two daughters attended the school
while she worked the office - "compassionate and caring, very
motherly and kind to all students."
On her last day, Nash was treated to an all-school assembly
where each school club and committee honored their friend
with a special gift. Later in the week, Nash was given a reception
where her family and friends mingled with faculty, students
and staff - current and former.
"We will miss her terribly," says Baldonado. "Our office
- and our school - won't seem the same without her.
