Cathedral to host Interfaith concert

text only version

The San Fernando Valley Interfaith Council will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a choir concert at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Feb. 18. Proceeds from the at 7 p.m. concert will benefit more than 24 programs of the council that include serving the homeless, hungry, frail elderly and immigrants.

The Interfaith choir draws people of diverse faiths and promotes interaction, appreciation and understanding among them. The council's mission and concert theme derives from the similar mission of the cathedral which offers a house of prayer for all.

A special grand finale number with all the choirs combined will be conducted by Paul Salamunovich, the conductor emeritus of the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Master of ceremonies for the event will be Archimandrite Alexei Smith, director of the Office of Interreligious and Ecumenical Affairs for the archdiocese. Seven valley choirs will be represented including the St. Charles Borromoeo Church (North Hollywood) contemporary group under the direction of Illeana Wade.

General seating tickets are $15, seniors and students $10 and children under 12 free. For information call the Council office (818) 718-6460, ext. 3007.
