Sainthood for Archbishop Sheen to be examined

San Gabriel Region

Franciscan Father Andrew Apostoli will lead a presentation that focuses on the legacy of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 at St. Joseph Conference and Evangelization Center in Alhambra.

As the postulator of the Cause for Beatification, Father Apostoli --- ordained a priest by Archbishop Sheen in 1967 --- is also a founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and has been dedicated to evangelization and conducting youth weekend retreats as well as working with the materially poor and destitute.

In December 1999, New York Cardinal John O'Connor authorized the private investigation into the life of Archbishop Sheen. In August 2002, Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky formally opened the cause for Bishop Sheen's canonization. The Vatican formally approved the opening later in October.

St. Joseph Center is located at 507 N. Granada Ave. For more information, call (626) 289-0223.
