Holy Family High School makes time
for missions

text only version

Glendale's Holy Family High School Key Club members really got into the spirit of Christmas this year as they gathered, wrapped and delivered a plethora of gifts to orphan children in Tecate, Mexico.

Several students, their parents and advisors from the Kiwanis club, sponsors of the international service Key Club program, spent a pre-Christmas weekend in Mexico, distributing gifts and food to the children. Holy Family Key Club secretary, junior Krystal Burns, said the participants enjoyed seeing the looks on the children's faces as they opened their gifts.

"It was gratifying to witness such a simple gesture to lighten up a child's face," said Burns. "It was also a blessing and a privilege to visit the orphanage and be part of this glorious event."

Holy Family High has a long tradition of mission service. Each year, a "mission princess" is chosen from each class to rally classmates in a fundraising drive for the missions in Latin America. The princess of the class that raises the most money is honored for her altruistic achievement. Holy Family High School has been voted the best high school in Glendale by the readers of the local community newspaper for several consecutive years.
